Common explanations include:

1. men’s fashion is not important
2. men’s fashion is too time consuming
3. men’s fashion is too expensive
4. men’s fashion is too generic
5. men’s fashion is too confusing

These are all weak excuses.  I know because I have used them all.  Ultimately, we are afraid.  Afraid looking stupid or out of place.  But we may be doing that now and not even know it.

First, fashion is important.  Well over 75% of you is typically clothed, so your clothing is what people see first and foremost.  Not only that, judgments, right or wrong, are being made.

Second, it doesn’t need to take any more time than it currently does to get dressed.  Once you understand the principles of men’s fashion, you don’t need to spend a lot of time worrying about what to wear.

Third, it is too expensive, if you buy what’s shown in the fashion magazines.  But is could be costing you even more by not dressing appropriately.

Fourth, you don’t need to look like everyone else, and you shouldn’t.  As mentioned previously, well over 75% of you is covered in clothing.  By discovering your own style (it’s easy), you will never look like everyone else.

Finally, by sticking with what you know, you are stuck in a fashion rut and likely look like ‘everyone else’ who is stuck in the same rut.

While jogging I began to reflect upon the shuffle’s size and design. The Shuffle fits nicely in the palm of my hand with the controls beneath my thumb. Without breaking stride I could crank up the volume, skip a song or stop the music all together. (When jogging with a dog on a crowded path any and all of these may be required.)

Today I was over at the Apple website and wouldn’t you know it, a new iPod Shuffle. Has Apple finally exceeded customer utility? This totally reminds me of this sketch I saw last fall on SNL, in which Steve Jobs introduces several new models as each one becomes obsolete.

While I have yet to see the new shuffle in person, this Apple image indicates to me that it may in fact be TOO SMALL. I for one think that the original iPod Shuffle was just the right size and design. I won’t even get into the new versions’ lack of a USB port for use as a USB flash drive…

Apple made several other announcements today, including the ability to download movies via iTunes and new versions of the other models of Ipods.

Additionally, there was mention of an item code name iTV. Now this is an item that will either be huge or totally ‘Newton’. Anyhow, Apple is making the bold attempt to bridge the gap between the pc and the home entertainment center. Should anyone be able to successfully crack this nut, it would be huge.

Some additional issues that I have related to the Comcast HD service with the Motorola box 6412 include that it randomly and frequently reboots, messing up recordings and generally annoying me. Also, the remote is often unresponsive, and then after about a minute, all of the buttons I previously pressed are executed. This is so very annoying. I have confirmed these problems with several friends and family.
Don’t take my word for it, just do a google search for comcast dvr sucks. 153,000 search results can’t be wrong.

Steve Wynn, owner of the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas had a very expensive accident a couple of weekends ago. He had just completed a private sale of Picasso’s Le Reve for $139 million. All that was left was the delivery of the painting from Las Vegas to the East Coast.

According the the blog of Nora Ephron, who was a witness to the event:

[…]Steve Wynn launched into a long story about the painting — he told us that it was a painting of Picasso’s mistress, Marie-Therese Walter, that it was extremely erotic, and that if you looked at it carefully (which I did, for the first time, although I’d seen it before at the Bellagio) you could see that the head of Marie-Therese was divided in two sections and that one of them was a penis. This was not a good moment for me vis a vis the painting. In fact, I would have to say that it made me pretty much think I wouldn’t pay five dollars for it. Wynn went on to tell us about the provenance of the painting - who’d first bought it and who’d then bought it. This brought us to the famous Victor and Sally Ganz, a New York couple who are a sort of ongoing caution to the sorts of people who currently populate the art world, because the Ganzes managed to accumulate a spectacular art collection in a small New York apartment with no money at all. The Ganz collection went up for auction in 1997, Wynn was saying — he was standing in front of the painting at this point, facing us. He raised his hand to show us something about the painting — and at that moment, his elbow crashed backwards right through the canvas.

There was a terrible noise.

Wynn stepped away from the painting, and there, smack in the middle of Marie-Therese Walter’s plump and allegedly-erotic forearm, was a black hole the size of a silver dollar - or, to be more exactly, the size of the tip of Steve Wynn’s elbow — with two three-inch long rips coming off it in either direction. Steve Wynn has retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that damages peripheral vision, but he could see quite clearly what had happened.

“Oh shit,” he said. “Look what I’ve done.”

He kept his cool, however, made a couple of phone calls and over the next several days, decided not to sell the painting after all.

I was first drawn to the cut and color of my first piece. But upon finding this letter stitched inside my shirt, I fell in love with the line. Each season brings a new line of clothing combined with a new fictional story which is literally woven into the clothing (more information in the links that follow).

I was able to obtain two additional pieces this past spring (my lucky B-Day shirt and a great T-shirt). Both of these shirts get comments on a regular basis. Check out the details in my B-Day shirt. In the t-shirt which reads “Archaeology - Dig it”, I have had Archaeology graduates stop me to discuss rocks (yeah, I like rocks too…) and outside the PCC a woman laughed and yelled at me across the parking lot that ‘Ross’ on Friends would have loved that shirt (yeah, he was a real person…).

This past week I also grabbed me a new corduroy jacket. I love this stuff. Their spring 2007 line has just been announced and looks to be quite fun.

The Southern California company is only a few years old, but is making quite a name for itself. Last fall it won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund top prize in New York.
